About Ancestral Echoes

Since my first introduction to Carin Block’s “Healing the Family System” course in 2006, I have been fascinated with the patterns we live that are inherited from our ancestors, or created by the imbalances of past family activity.  Add to that all the interesting details from Malcom Gladwell’s book “The Outliers”   (Amazon Affiliate link) and the recent PBS series (American Faces) that traces your family roots and it feels like our own family could be the source of a satisfying Agatha Christie mystery novel.  I remain intrigued.

The family system work from Carin Bloc provides one:one in person sessions that can bring to light specific family patterns we are holding in relation to current situations in our life.  For example, a bright and talented young man, may hold himself back academically, pursue low paying physically enduring jobs, and a lower standard of living to give an ancestor a place of honor in the family system.  By unconsciously echoing the family members traits, the young man feels like he is part of the system by abiding their rules, (i.e. our family will never get ahead) will unconsciously helping the family to include a member who may have been disgraced, or passed on etc. by adopting their traits of low income, education etc.

In Carin’s work, by identifying the pattern (a systemic loyalty in the example above), and how it shows up as an internal image, we can shift the image to something that creates coherence for ourselves and the family system.

While this process is amazing, and beautiful done in person using Carin’s ‘pac mans’ , I wondered if there were common ancestral patterns we all shared that could be released and healed in a group proxy session.   In July 2009 I launched the first Ancestral Echoes online group proxy adapting some of Carin’s information and adding other sources as well that help us tap into the large holographic internal images we all share.

The results have been encouraging and so I have decided to continue offering this program and expand it with the stories that shed light on the complex patterns we live each day.

At this blog I intend to share my own and others stories and insights achieved through this process, as well as other philisophical perspectives.
